Coloured powder thrown into the air during a festival in India

Experiences

Travel deeper.

Most people arrive with a feeling rather than an itinerary. These are the threads we build journeys around.

Detailed historic architecture in Rajasthan, India

01 — Forts, palaces and temple cities, explained by people who know their history.

Culture & Heritage

India’s built history runs from rock-cut caves to Mughal capitals to colonial hill stations, and very little of it is roped off. The difference between an interesting building and a memorable morning is almost always the guide.

02 — Tiger reserves, grasslands and forests, with early starts and no guarantees.

Wildlife

India holds most of the world’s remaining wild tigers, along with one-horned rhino, Asiatic lion and a great deal of birdlife. Sightings are never promised. Good lodges, unhurried drives and experienced naturalists are what actually improve your odds.

03

Mountains

The range runs the full width of the subcontinent, and it is not one experience. The eastern Himalaya is green, wet and gentle; Ladakh is bare, high and vast. We match the region to your altitude tolerance and the season you can travel.

04

Food & Cuisine

There is no such thing as Indian food. There is Chettinad food, Kashmiri food, Bengali food — each with its own grains, fats and festival dishes. Eating well here means travelling with someone who knows which street stall and which family kitchen.

Market walks · Home dining · Regional tasting routes · Cooking with a local family

05

Wellness

Wellness travel in India ranges from a serious residential Ayurvedic programme to an hour of yoga before breakfast. We are straightforward about which is which, so you book the thing you actually want.

06

Adventure

Not expeditions — journeys with some effort in them. Day walks between villages, motorcycle routes over high passes, rafting on snowmelt rivers, and nights somewhere it takes a while to reach.

07

Spiritual Journeys

Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Jain, Muslim and Christian traditions all live here, often on the same street. These journeys are about understanding what is happening rather than watching it, and about knowing when to put the camera down.

Festivals

Holi, Diwali, Pushkar, Hornbill, monastery masked dances — festivals move with lunar and regional calendars, so they need planning a long way out. Accommodation in the right town books up first.

Local Life

The parts of a journey people remember are rarely the monuments. They are an afternoon with a weaver, a village cricket match, a train conversation. These encounters are arranged properly and paid for fairly.

Craft workshops · Village stays · Music and dance · Working farms and estates

Slow & Considered Travel

The most common regret we hear is having moved too fast. Three nights somewhere is a different experience from one. We will happily talk you out of a fourth destination.

Single-base journeys · Long stays · Rail travel · Unscheduled days
